So foundations are something that I didn't even choose a favorite for because I haven't found anything I really love that I can wear on a daily basis since almost all foundations break me out T_T Some foundations I do love (nars sheer glow) but I can't wear because it will break me out and other I don't love that don't break me out >_< So I'm trying to use up my collection before I go out and try more high end ones xD Also, I hate reviewing foundations because it takes me a while to figure out whether I like it or not and I usually lose interest in the foundation before I get around to reviewing it xD So this was a foundation that seem to get a lot of love last year (2011) and I bought into the hype (as usual).
Color match:
This is one of the most important things for me in a foundation. I spent most of my life wearing the wrong color of foundation because I didn't really pay attention to things like undertone. I'm a super yellow Asian so most foundations are not yellow enough for me. That's part of the reason why I love the Nars foundation so much. Also, I tend to go a shade lighter in foundation because almost all foundations will oxidize on my oily skin so I find that it looks better when I do.
That being said, I picked up 52 Vanilla which I heard was a good match for NC20-25 and I'd pretty much agree. I think it was too light for me in the summer when I'm more NC27ish but in the dead of the winter it works xD However, this foundation is a little too pink for me. Because I build up my foundation I can see the pink undertone when I have it on because it gives my face a slight white cast in real life (and a noticeable white cast in pictures) which is generally what happens to me when I wear foundations that are too pink for me :( It's still better than Revlon Colorstay but it was a little disappointing.
Coverage:
This is the second most important thing for me in a foundation since I have terrible skin. It needs to cover up my acne/scars without looking too heavy. The healthy mix has pretty good coverage. I would describe it as medium. But medium that you can build up for heavier coverage. However, I will say that building this foundation up can give you that cakey look. It reminds me a lot of Kanebo Kate's foundation except a little heavier. I would describe the finish as more of a semi-matte finish.
Scent:
It has a super strong artificially sweet fruity smell. It's pretty overpowering although the smell does fade after application. The first time I applied this I was not prepared and it made me nauseous. So now I just hold my breath when I apply this foundation. Which is ridiculous but the scent still makes me nauseous. I'm pretty sensitive to scents and prefer my makeup unscented so this was a definite negative for me.
L: No foundation, R: Bourjois blended out
Lasting Power:
So the claim is for up to16 hours and I would say 16 hours is a bit of a stretch. There will be some foundation left on your face although it definitely does not fade evenly :( It was a little patchy in areas -_- I only tested it out for about 14 hours though and it was still there, although it had faded a lot. I definitely do not think it will last 16 hours especially without being set by a powder
Packaging:
I love the packaging. It's light (not in a glass bottle), travel-friendly, and most importantly comes with a pump. It's also clear so you can see how much of the foundation you have left and the bottom rises so there's no waste. Best foundation packaging ever imo :D
Application:
The texture of the foundation is not too thick nor watery. It blends easily and you don't have to worry about it drying before you blend it out. I do think this oxidizes a little. My favorite way to apply this foundation is with the Sigma F80 because I find that it gives me the best coverage without being cakey. With my oily skin, I do set this with powder and with powder on top the oil control isn't bad.
Photograph:
For some reason this doesn't photograph well for me. I don't know if it has SPF but it does give me that white cast so this is definitely not a night time going out foundation for me.
Price: $17+/- @ asos
I know you can't really tell the lack of yellow-ness so I did a mini-comparison with Kanebo Kate ^^
L: Bourjois, R: Kate (Bourjois looks more yellow when first pumped)
blended out a little more
L: Bourjois, R: Kate (Kate is more yellow)
blended out even more
L: Bourjois, R: Kate (Bourjois is noticeably pink/browner than Kate.)
OverallPros - it's a decent daily foundation that doesn't take a lot of work and it doesn't break me out so I wouldn't mind wearing on a day to day basis.
Cons-Not a great color match. It smells SOOO strong and I despise the smell. It's pricey for a drugstore foundation.
Repurchase? No. I would not repurchase this on smell alone. I should not have to hold my breath while I apply foundation -_-"
