Mac Mineralize Duo Eyeshadows

So I'm not a huge fan of mineralized eyeshadows or really mineralized anything (except mineralized skinfinishes xD) but these 2 colors I could not resist.

L-R: Sea & Sky, Odd Couple

ODD COUPLE:
So I actually expected the orange shade in odd couple would be a bronzey orange but it's more of an peachy apricot color.
swatched on skin:
L: top color, R: bottom color
(the purple is more purple than this swatch shows)

Texture-wise both colors do not apply as smoothly as I would expect. The top color has a TON of fall out and a ton of glitter. Pigmentation-wise, the color intensity can be built up. It really is an odd couple pairing since I would not normally pair these 2 colors together but they seem to work :)

SEA & SKY:
L: bottom color, R: top color

Seriously how beautiful is that bottom color? I never wear blue eyeshadows because it's really not as easy as people think it is to pull it off but seriously I cannot get rid of this eyeshadow because I love swatching and staring at it lol And the pale blue is much easier to wear even though it is a little frostier than I usually prefer. Everything I swatch is without using a base so I'd expect with a base the colors are even more vibrant! ^^~ This is actually a pretty good shadow duo for a simple blue smoky eye =D

and all 4 swatched:
S&S bottom, S&S top, OC top, OC bottom

So it seems like the top color of the mineralized duos are the lighter color and are much frostier/have glitter whereas the bottom colors are deeper and more of a metallic sheen.

These were limited edition but then they brought them back and now I think they're gone again? Who knows? I believe they retailed for $19.50 but I think all mineralized eyeshadow duos had their prices raised to $20 or so. I found these at my local CCO (yay for outlets) for almost half that and although these don't get the wear they deserve I do like owning them.

Do you own any mineralize eyeshadow duos?

  1. They're all gorgeous! I love the look of mineralize stuff in the pan but also dislike the texture like you do. You made Sea & Sky totally wearable! Love!

  2. Are you swatching them wet? That might help control the fallout and also increase the intensity of the color. I don't own any mineralize shadows but I did just buy a baked shadow palette from Sephora. It's been fun to play with so far, though I don't really have a lot of practice foiling!

    1. nope i don't like using eyeshadows wet because i feel like it ruins the eyeshadows faster >_< but i think one of these i will like to try foiling cuz i hear so many good things abt it ^^

  3. I agree that Odd Couple is exactly that - a very odd pairing indeed. But surprisingly, it actually doesn't look all that bad together. The Sea and Sky combo is really pretty though!
